very comfortable distance spike

I wanted to buy this Adidas Avanti distance spikes for some time, because I'm used to the boost midsoles of my regular running shoes. The retail price of €130 is quite steep, so I waited for a discount. I plan to train for and race the 800m and 1500m in them. Adidas Avanti spikes have full length spike plate, as well as a full length boost midsole. The shoes have 4 removable spikes. I wear a size 11, and the shoes weigh 5.64 ounces. The fit is true to size, so bigger than the Adios and Tempo, more like the Glide and the Sequence. The first thing you notice when wearing these spikes, is how comfortable they are: almost as comfortable as racing flats like the Adios. Also, they have a powerful push-off thanks to the full length spike plate and the energy return of the boost foam. The only thing that the shoe doesn't do very well, is fast corners. The forefoot slides a bit when running at 800m speed or faster. That's probably because the spikes were designed for 1500m and longer. One of my previous spikes is the Nike Zoom Rival D9, which I liked for it's support, but compared to the Avanti, they are much heavier (7 ounces), and lack cushioning and energy return. Also, they don't have a full length spike plate. I also have the Nike Zoom D, which I like for being very lightweight (4.59 onces), quite comfortable and tight around corners. However, they are way more flexible, so very demanding on your arches. Also, less cushioning and energy return. I'll probably keep the Nike Zoom D for 400m races and the Avanti's 800m races and longer, and for workouts.

the adidas avanti is a great spike built for 800-10000m, as well as XC, which makes it a very versatile spike. on top of that, it's much more durable than other spikes on the market thanks to the boost midsole, the full-length spike plate, and the thicker mesh upper. it fits like any track spike would -- pretty snug, not overly so. on first wear, you may feel like there's a bit more underfoot, and that's because there is -- it has a thicker and more substantial midsole than many other spikes. the full-length, hard spike plate also makes it feel like there's a lot of shoe underneath. when walking around, for me it felt a little bit unstable at first, but running felt very smooth. the one gripe i have with the upper is that the tongue tends to pinch up with the amount of material there when tying it up. as stated before, running in this spike is a very unique experience with the amount of cushioning you get with this spike. there are some moments of the gait cycle that are a little strange at first in this spike -- some people may be conscious of the missing 5th spike where a filled plastic well is, in fact, one might even feel a dead zone in grip in this spot -- i certainly did at some points, but in workouts and races you don't even notice or think about it. besides that note, running in this spike is as smooth as butter. not a super responsive ride, i must say, so for events like 800 you will feel comfortable but not nearly as quick as you want to be. 1500 and up is where this shoe shines. a quick note, this shoe is 4.9 oz in a men's size 9, which means it's a bit heavier than other spikes. once you wear them, though, you get used to it. this spike is also built like a tank. tpu midsoles, like boost, are known to last an extremely long time. i've had my pair for over a year, and they still feel like new. the upper is totally in-tact as well, no fraying whatsoever. nothing on this shoe has fallen apart or loosened except for the chrome plating on the spike plate, which has pretty much disintegrated completely. i've got the white and red rio colorway, which i really like. there are some really nice exclusive colorways that weren't available to the general public -- the white and gold pair, and the nick willis exclusive black and white pair (with classic adidas long stripes). i wish i could get my hands on those instead. the price has since gone down from 120 to 110, and with this spike you're getting an extremely durable distance track and cross country spike that's going to last you season after season. for that money. these are 100% worth the buy.
