Superb Racing Flat

Overall

The Lunaracers are some of the best road racing shoes around for their amble cushion in a lightweight and fast package. While I mainly raced 5ks in these, I would have no problem using them for a 10k or half marathon because they provide so much cushion. They're also great for longer tempo workouts and provide plenty of spring late into their life. Overall some of my favorite racing shoes I've ever worn.

My one and only 10-star shoe!

One of the best, classic racing shoes out there. The Lunaracer does everything right; it's very light weight, the Lunarlon foam has plenty of cushion to take even amateur runners through 26.2 miles, it's responsive, fast, stable and no nonsense. The upper is thin and comfortable. I have four pairs stockpiled and with as long as these last, it should keep me safe until 2024 or so. Perhaps the best thing Nike has ever sold, and I'd argue for a decent runner all the way up to elites, they're every bit as fast as the Vaporfly or Zoom Streak 6. Very under rated.

I’m a 58-year old former D1 runner and I was sponsored by Etonic back in the day. I am, still, a very strong advocate of running, I’m just not as fast as I used to be. Mostly, I run for enjoyment nowadays. I’ve been running/training in Nike racing flats for decades as I like the low weight and responsiveness of their shoes. I have a high arched foot, I’m a forefoot striker and a strong supinator, so these shoes work well for me. As Craig Virgin told our group one night at an after-meet party (he’d blown-away the field that night in the 5,000m), not long after he’d switched to train by himself, one of the guys in our group asked him if it was hard to train by himself? Craig confidently answered him, “did it look like it tonight?” I’ve thought about using that kind of an answer when people have asked me, is it hard to run on your toes for a marathon (or 50-Miles), but I never had the swagger to use Craig’s reply. ?

Overall

Excellent racing flat with enough cushioning for distances up to the marathon (from personal experience) and still light enough for a fast 5k. Near zero drop (I think 4mm) and lightweight so as to not weigh down the foot or cause heel striking. After 500 miles the shoe shows signs of wear, but as i am around 600 now, the rubber on the bottom has significantly worn through while the shoe is still quite comfortable and good for occasional speed-work and racing. On a negative note, for those who heel-strike like I do, the foam in the heel is ribbed in such a manner that it tends to compress significantly over time (much like the Saucony Kinvara). Additionally, the upper, which is light and un-inhibiting tends to stretch over time so the laces need to be tied tighter over the life of the shoe.
