Salomon Supercross vs Salomon Speedcross 3D

Anonymous runner · Feb 17, 2021

2/5

Overall

The Speedcross 3D was my first 50km (30 mile) trail run shoe and loved every aspect of that shoe although it was heavier than my Brooks Cascadia's (spoiler - I LOVE my Cascadia's). I opted for the Salomon Supercross this time because my time-on-the-trail has been reduced so I don't need the top of the line Salomon at this time. That said, what a crappy shoe. It looks nice but: 1) The "orthotic" insert isn't adhered to the sole of the shoe. I had to hot-glue it, as it was constantly sliding to the front of the shoe and jamming my toe. 2) After one month, the back of the right shoe has split (not from me jamming my foot into a tight-laced shoe) and the result is I have to wear two sets of socks to reduce the sharp edge grinding into my foot. It's almost too much of a split so that I cannot even wear it as a casual shoe now. 3) In snow, the large lug treads simply don't work as promoted. Yes they are aggressive and they stick on my brake pedal in my truck which can be hazardous, but on the trail? The Brooks tread is far better and the more expensive Speedcross 3D are the best. 4) The tongue. When running in the cold, there is such a large gap between the tongue and body of the shoe, that cold air, snow, slush, etc are constantly flooding into my shoe. The Cascadia and the Speedcross 3D didn't have this problem. 5) The shoe feels cheap. It just does.
