Overall

I purchased Nike Streak as a trial. I have been running in Saucony Kinvaras for 10+ years but wanted to try something new. These shoes were perfect for racing an took me through at 16:59. I've been trying to break 17 for probably just as long. The Nike Streak is still rather new so we'll see how they hold up!

How to train in racing shoes

Bought in to Lt3 when I abandoned treadmill at 60. Moved outside for 50 miles per week. Still have some Nike Duellists from the 90s and was able to get 5000 miles per pair on the treadmill. Ran solely in racing shoes my whole life. Lt4 is probably an improvement over LT3. This is about a 10,000 mile odyssey stretched over about 6 pairs of which 2 are toast. I estimate I get 2500 miles per pair.

I've used the Streak LT 4 for 1,500m and 3,000m races in which I set a pr in those shoes and have used them for a few 5 mile road runs and they feel great.

Racing Flat for Neutral Foot

Nike used to be my go to shoe, that is until the overtly padded heels came on the scene. I have run in some of the latest padded heel iterations, ZoomFly Flyknit, etc, and while I was able to complete temp runs, they leave my legs exhausted-presumably due to a force heel strike-and feet working overtime. Now, I am not advocating the above will hold true for the majority of runners, but for me and my high arches, I like to feel the road under my foot, and allow the natural curvature of my foot follow its natural range of motion when running, with a forefoot/midfoot strike. This means, a relatively low stack shoe, with little to no heel padding. The good news is, prior to Nike moving toward the sponge padded heels, was the Nike Streak series. So, I have given both the Streak LT4 and the Streak 7 a try. Both have delivered! The Streak LT4 is a true road racing flat. Minimal stack height and padding, but soft enough to not leave the feet taking the brunt of each step. There is almost no heel with this shoe, and a slight leaning of the torso forward leaves you on your forefoot-which is where I want to be during any sprint work, or 5K. In my opinion, the LT4 is designed for forefoot running (speed). My goal is getting to the point where I can run a full 5K on my forefoot with these shoes. I have gotten to about 1.5 miles on the forefoot to date. Current blended 5K race pace is about 6:45/mile. I believe my forefoot pace has been around 6:25. The LT4 is comfortable, stylish, very light weight, and breathable. The toe box is narrow (which I like), and the shoe fits like a glove (which I also like). The only caution I would give is making sure you do not overdo it on the first few runs with this shoe-UNLESS you are already used to running in racing flats. Reason being, your calves will be forced into overtime when doing speed work in the LT4. I have run 5 or so races in this shoe over the past couple months, set a PR in the 5K, and have slowly built up my calf strength as a result. I am hoping Nike will continue the Streak series moving forward. As mentioned, I also purchased a pair of the Streak 7 for threshold work, and possible 10K half marathon racing. Streak 7 is very similar to the LT4, with slight more padding and support. All in all-for runners seeking a light weight, fast racing flat, for shorter distance, the Nike LT4 is definitely worth a look.
