A great interval shoe

Anonymous runner · Dec 30, 2019

5/5

Overall

The Newton Distance has long been my favorite interval shoe and the Distance 8 doesn't disappoint. It's a responsive shoe with a nice pop that keeps me up on my forefoot when running fast. The toebox is wide and the upper is comfortable. I'd say it runs a half size large. Placement of the lugs under the ball of the foot is critical to get the best out of this shoe and I had to drop down a half size to get the lugs where I wanted them.

Great for helping form and speed

Anonymous runner · Jul 28, 2019

Overall

I love the Newton distance for short /fast tempo efforts (up to 5km), a few times a week or month. I once completed a half marathon in them and they were ok but I had developed a lot of strength before in 'regular' trainers, so it was ok for racing that far. I would be a little cautious (given my history) of making these a regular everyday trainer, because they would make me go too fast, would not provide enough support and would injure me. So I save them for occassional workouts / runs. They are great for that. They are expensive but I was able to pick up some bargains in end of line sales, and also a second hand pair that was virtually new but greatly reduced in cost. They look great, have great wear pattern on tred (ie not much rubber lost, and shows more even loss implying my form is more balanced compared to regular shoe). Pretty comfortable onceyou've built up to using them.
