I used to have the Asics Glideride 3 before this came out. I liked those shoes, but it seemed at about 200 miles, they lost a lot of their cushion. Disliking this, I briefly switched to the New Balance 1080 v13, and at first, they seemed great, but then they bottomed out extremely quickly, and soaked up water, so they became very heavy and not comfortable whatsoever. I was planning on just going and buying another pair of Glideride 3's, but when I instead went to the ASICS site, I found that the GlideRide Max had come out; claiming more cushioning, a new foam, and greater energy return. So, I ordered them. They were $170, so a little expensive for an easy day shoe, but I was willing to try them. They fit true to size, and I am a size 9.5 US with an average width of foot. I put them on and I was immediately amazed. There is a large amount of foam, but it doesn't feel heavy, it feels soft and supple, even though this shoe weighs just over 10 oz. However, even though this softness is evident, there is also the slightest touch of firmness, while the 1080s were simply a marshmallow (hence the bottoming out). I typically run my easy runs in the 8:00s miles, and they are typically around 6-8 miles. I have put almost 300 miles on them now, and I am not feeling any change in the foam or regarding bottoming out. The tread has held up decently, a little more wear than the Glideride 3's at this point in their life, but nothing substantial. It's a good looking shoe, I guess I just wish they came out with an all-white colorway, without the green sole.
