How it ranks
The Altra Escalante 4 ranks above most daily trainers in our data. Comfort and value are its strongest sub-ratings. The rating rests on 7 runner reviews and 6 other rated shoes in the Escalante product line. Another 5 reviews would set the confidence on this shoe's own reviews.
Confidence
How settled the rating is against every other rated shoe. A shoe can rate high on confidence with relatively few reviews of its own when its product line has a long record and external ratings from retailer sites agree. Confidence will score low when we have few ratings or when runners disagree.

The changes weren't needed. Shoe durability seems to be about the same, but it feels more like a high stack cushion shoe. Not what the Escalante is supposed to be.

I decided to try the new version of the Escalante, since it had better cushion. It doesn't feel substantially different or more cushy.

the shoe overall is good but the only flaw and this is me nitpicking is that it has laces that always come undone. Also, i think it could be a bit better with just slightly firmer cushion.
Other than that. the toebox is nice and roomy and the shoe is flat zero drop which helps you walk and run with better running mechanics. i would advise building up to these shoes in a very conservative approach. Always do less than you think you should to avoid overuse injuries while getting used to the zero drop and low cushion.
