Variants of this shoe
Some shoes have multiple versions of what is essentially the same shoe, with variations in style or materials. We try to group these together. Retailers sometimes list a version number wrong, and our system can treat those mislabeled names as variants.
How it ranks
The HOKA Clifton 9 is one of the strongest daily trainers in our data. Comfort and cushioning are its strongest sub-ratings. The rating is based on 130 runner reviews and 10 other rated shoes in the Clifton product line.
Confidence
How settled the rating is against every other rated shoe. A shoe can rate high on confidence with relatively few reviews of its own when its product line has a long record and external ratings from retailer sites agree. Confidence is low when we have few ratings or when runners disagree.

External retailer ratings
We break apart ratings from mass-market retailers and specialty running shops since they serve different audiences.
The middle of the bar marks the typical shoe at each type of retailer. The dot shows where this shoe ranks in comparison.
Based on
The bars show roughly how much each source contributes to this shoe’s rating. Their influence depends on how many reviews we’ve collected, how many earlier versions are in the product line, and the external ratings available.

I've run the equivalent of four times around the world. Still very fit but moderate in my workouts and mindful of staying healthy and uninjured. The Hoka One Clifton 9 is the most cushioned shoe I have run in and keeps me going 30 miles/week

The Clifton has changed for the better. It has an additional 3mm of foam and a roomier, more comfortable upper. If you are looking for a good daily trainer, this is the shoe that can do it all. The Cliftons new CMEVA foam is perfect for going out for a recovery jog or picking up the pace on a long run.
