My Big Fat Greek shoe affair

5/5

Overall

I've trained in this shoe for about over 3 years (since they released in 2015) and have had good luck with it. I use it as a light weight trainer as well as racing half marathons and up. It's firm and responsive enough to get through some heavy miles but not so clunky where it weighs me down. I use to run in the Nike Pegasus but I was looking for a slightly lower drop shoe that was comparable in durability, price and cushioning. The 6mm drop on the Zante is perfect for my forefoot strike biomechanics and hits that sweet spot between being a "minimalist shoe" and a heavy cushioned shoe. The only qualm I ever had with this shoe was in the second generation the toe box seemed to be a bit short and the knit upper didn't hold my foot in as much I would have liked but they seems to have fix those problems in the newer models. If they could round out the toe box a bit more to fit a true human foot instead the tapering like all other shoe companies do I would consider this a 10/10 all the way around.

Excellent trainer and road racing shoe

4/5

Overall

The Zante is a responsive, light weight trainer that fits like a glove. The upper is stretchy, so it hugs your foot for a personalized feel without being too tight. The sole is the New Balance Fresh Foam. Although they advertise it as soft, I think responsive is a better adjective. Although you will not feel every pebble on the road like when you run in racing flats, you will certainly feel the road and will feel it pushing back on you. (If you have ever ran in a standard trainer or a maximalist shoe, you will understand an unresponsive shoe that feels soft no matter the surface.) For these reasons, I believe the Zante is a versatile shoe. I use it as an everyday trainer and as a racing shoe on the roads for distances 5k and up (since I have started to feel more and more out of place changing into racing flats) As somone who raced competitvely in school, I enjoy the upper that hugs your foot because it feels more like a racing shoe than a walking around comfort shoe.
