Perfect Marathon shoe

5/5

Overall

Since Brooks discontinued the Racer ST 5, I have been running in the Asteria for one mile road races to a half marathon. I wasn’t sure if they would hold up for the full marathon distance. Recently I actually DID use them for a marathon and they performed wonderfully. No hot spots, no degradation in cushioning, and they felt very light on the feet.

Go-to racer w/ support

4/5

Overall

I have used this great success for racing and track workouts. Good support and cushion, while also being light and responsive. Good for road racing all distances or on the track when a track spike is not enough padding or support.

Asteria = Great Marathon Flat

5/5

Overall

I've worn these shoes since they rolled out. They were comfortable right out of the box. I use them for tempo runs and road marathons. I tend to need a relatively significant amount of cushion in my shoes for road marathons. These aren't super cushioned, but are darn near perfect. I only feel my feet a little bit in the last couple of miles, which is going to be true for almost any shoe. They are also flexible, light-weightThis is definitely my go-to road marathon shoe now.

Not as good or cheap as Racer ST, but a viable alternative

4/5

Overall

I like to support brooks because they are a smaller american company, but my allegiance was tested by the CEO's "running is not a sport" statement. I really liked the Racer ST. They were a great inexpensive, lightweight, medial-posted shoe training shoe. And most importantly, Brooks didn't tinker with it every year. Now that the Racer ST is gone, I went to the Asteria as an alternative. I do like the smoother upper, but the shoes are ugly, and I would prefer a little tougher medial post. And they're more expensive, which is annoying.

Light/Stable race shoe

4/5

Overall

I purchased the Brooks Asteria to run my first marathon. My daily training was done wearing the Brooks Ravenna. The Asteria had a nice snug fit even for my narrow feet. It had just the right amount of cushioning and provided ample stability for such a light shoe. I felt it performed well during the marathon, no blisters, or slippage. Enough support/cushioning that my legs didn't feel beat up at the end of the race. The 3D printed upper breaths well. I wore the shoe for most long training runs and durability has been good. Overall a solid lightweight stability option for race day.
