Not quite what I expected

Overall

Pros.. Lightweight, Wear resistant, Excellent grip even in wet weather, Fits true to size, Looks great in Signal Coral colourway, Good value when on sale Cons.. Lightstrike 'cushioning' is rock hard, Shoe has no bounce, Inflexible I took a flyer on this shoe on Black Friday 2020 as the value ($80CAD) was good. I bought it in an 11.5 and it fit true to size. The fit is narrow but excellent if that is your foot type. After 300km I am overall disappointed. The SL20 with Lightstrike is too firm, almost harsh, like running in a dress shoe. With a Reebok Floatride Energy 2 in my rotation the harshness of the ride was immediately felt compared to it. Using the SL20 back to back days for 8-10km tempo runs made my legs feel beat up as if I ran much greater distances. The shoe is so unnecessarily firm you feel/hear every footstrike and bounce/energy return is non existent. In fact I would think there is energy losses as you really need to work hard to go fast for long. My runs have been relegated to short quick bursts on odd days with the SL20. This seems to be where it performs best with it's lack of cushioning. Grip in all conditions are top notch with the Continental sole. Also not showing significant wear after 300K. It's light weight, inflexibility and lack of cushioning have relegated this shoe to short runs. I keep using it hoping that the lightsrike foam would soften somewhat eventually but it has not. Personally, I would never buy any Adidas shoe with Lighstrike ever again and would not recommend this shoe.

Fast daily trainer

5/5

Overall

An overall brilliant experience to run in this shoe. I'm so glad that I was able to run in this shoe. I used this shoe as a daily trainer because I couldn't find any other shoes such as the adidas solarboost on sale. I was a bit worried as I saw other reviews of this shoe and they were claiming its a faster shoe that is less capable of daily training. I was pleasantly surprised by come the end of the season I was really enjoying this shoe the whole duration. The comfort was plenty for me but overall is less for most people. It's quite firm because of the Lightstrike and no boost. I would pair this shoe with something like the solar series. The cushioning was brilliantly responsive, and doesn't feel like a brick underfoot under fast paces such as 5:00 or even 4:30. On easier paces such as about 7:50 pace it still felt nice and responsive. The durability was only knocked off one star because of the little amounts of wear in the Continental rubber forefoot outsole and adiwear rear outsole. But other than that, there was no wear anywhere except for the lettering coming off on the insole (the glued on text). I only stopped using it at around 300 miles because I got worried that my feet would randomly explode on me even though the shoe experience probably felt fine. The appearance was great, I got it in signal coral (the bright orange). The value is top notch, I wouldn't mind paying full price given what features you are able to have in these shoes, from easy day to the fastest of long intervals to the 200 repeats around the track, this shoe does it with no fault.
