Overall

This is my second pair of Altras, after running in the Altra The One for around 8 months. I LOVED The One and had a really great experience with the Altra brand in general, so I decided to give their newer version of the model a try when it was time to buy a new pair of shoes. I have to say that personally, I think I liked the original version better, simply due to the look and shape of the shoe. The first model was flatter on the ground and looked more like a running shoe, while the One Squared is a bit bulkier looking and no longer has that "zero drop" feel to it. Although it's just as light underfoot, I personally don't like the shape of the new shoe as much. However, I'll definitely make my next purchase with Altra again-- they're a great company that makes a great product, and I feel like their products last longer than most other shoes I've tried.

Overall

I like Altra as a brand because they are not interested in reinventing the wheel. They have two fundamental principles and their shoes reflect that which something I admire (perhaps that reflects more naivete on my part but that's a story for another day). As long as the shoe is flat and shaped like your foot, you are free to choose thin, minimal models to the more maximal ones which is great. The One 2.0 is a great shoes simply because it is lightweight and lets my foot move in the manner that it wants to. I feel very free when I run in this shoes which makes my runs more enjoyable and that in turn lets me concentrate more on my run than what's on my feet. However, there is a downside when it comes to being lightweight. The sole is mostly exposed EVA with rubber under the big toe and lateral heel. The sole will show more wear at a faster rate than other shoes because this design. Overall, I have been happy with the shoe and since I rotate three pairs of shoes during the week, I will probably get more life and miles out of these shoes than other people who may just wear them day in and day out.
