Bushido not everyday

Overall

The La Sportiva Bushido has been around for a while with no updates but it is such a specific type of shoe it doesn't need to update. Stiff, firm with no cushion to speak of, this trail running shoe is ideal for tough terrain where control is everything. Sharp rock, loose rock, bad footing uneven surface. A scrambling shoe. Not for everyday use but for those rare runs when its more exploring with a little off trail adventuring. In this niche category of an already niche activity the Bushido stands without much competition. Probably the 5th shoe in your lineup not the first

My experience has been that $125 shoes don't hold up significantly better than $75 shoes. They still expire after 3 or so months or 4 to 600 miles. That has proved to be the case with La Sportiva's Bushido. I sought a trainer with an aggressive tread that was in the $75 range. A specialty running and climbing shop in New Paltz, New York, was having an online sale that included the La Sportiva Bushido for $85. The shoes run small. Once broken in, though, they fit well, though with occasional rubbing from a seam above the big toe. After about three months during which I worked in an old pair of shoes and some racing flats to allow my feet to recover from rubbing or because the shoes hadn't dried out yet, a hole formed in the material above the toes. Yet the tread is barely worn. If (a) the inside toe box seam could be sealed/smoothed over, (b) ventilation/drainage could be built in, (c) the durability of the toe box roof could be improved, and (d) the cost could be reigned in, this could be a solid shoe. The tread certainly performs well in trail environments.
