Mizuno Wave Sky 2

Overall

This shoe dates to Spring 2019 but I can still run it in. It shows minimal wear but is a bit much for hot weather, both the collar, shell and sole still show very little wear. I wore it on a sandy trail and in the rain on the same day and once it dried out , it still showed no wear (April 2023).

Overall

I love the Wave Sky 2. I'm a new runner who is giving it another try after getting a stress fracture a month into training a couple years ago. As a neutral runner with narrow feet, this shoe fits me so well. My first pair of running shoes was for overpronators, as I was incorrectly fit at a running store. I ended up with a stress fracture and pain from those shoes, so these are much improved. I especially love how the ultra-thick heel cushion hugs my very narrow heels. As someone with past stress fractures and a torn tendon in my foot (and therefore have experienced a lot of foot pain), I love the cushion this shoes provides. It's very bouncy and feels good under my feet on the road. I'm not crazy about the colorways, so that's my only negative. I also want to mention that I am typically an 8.5 in running shoes (7.5 in street shoes), but I needed a 9 in these Mizunos.

More cushioning isn't always better

Overall

When first putting the shoe on the cushioning feels very nice. After wearing them during a run or just walking around the cushioning compresses and feels like it's bottoming out and I only weigh 130 lbs. The shoe just starts to feel very hard underfoot. It has a terrible lacing system. It's impossible to have the shoe tight enough without constricting your foot. Even when the shoe is tied loosely it creates pressure points on the top of my foot. It has the least breathable upper of any shoe I have ever worn, including dress shoes. I am moderately active at work. By the end of the day both my foot and the shoe are wet from perspiration. Lastly, these things are bricks. Very heavy and not very flexible.
