Overall

When I first got this shoe, I was incredibly excited. The prospect of a racing flat well under 4 oz was enough for me to completely ignore the price tag and just buy it. Putting them on was excellent as well, they felt like slippers and were perfect even without socks. Unfortunately, I have two problems with the shoe. The first is the outsole. It simply isn't meant to last. Many shoe companies are going with a nub-like pattern of rubber on the outsole, and every time I see it, I am disappointed. They just wear out too quickly. This shoe is no exception. After just two races (a track 10k and an all grass 5k xc race), they are already showing significant signs of wear. Keep in mind that I am relatively small and light on my feet. I cannot imagine how these would hold up for someone larger. Durability aside, I did also have a second issue with the shoes, which is that in an attempt to reduce as much weight as possible, these shoes do not have much "pop" to them. By comparison, two other flats I have recently worn have been the adidas takumi sen boost and the Nike Streak LT3. Both of them significantly outweigh the NB 5000, and yet I feel faster and smoother when I wear them for a workout or race. So overall, not a bad flat, but definitely some kinks to work out before it is worth the money in my opinion.
