Overall

Likes: comfortable, bouncy, good energy return to help maintain running ecnomy Dislikes: not as comfortable over longer distances (15 miler), price, if you're tired it's harder to run in I thoroughly love using this shoe as an easy trainer. It's comfortable, bouncy, and gives good energy return to help maintain running economy. It's helped me become a fore/midfoot striker as opposed to a heel striker. The "clouds" are an upgrade over the previous model and I haven't noticed any of the "squeaking" associated with them. However, there are a few downsides. I find it's not as comfortable over longer distances, specifically a 15 mile long run I did, and as you tire out it can be hard to maintain the correct footstrike to benefit from the energy return. The price, $190, is a little high but I suppose that's the way trainers have gone. Overall, it's a great shoe despite any of the potential downsides. On days I struggle getting out the door, the ONs make the run manageable and more often than not I end up feeling better than I would otherwise. I think my personal sweetspot with the ON is 6-10 miles. It's light enough and comfortable enough to get me through those distances, but anything longer is a decrease in marginal utility. Compared to other shoes I'm currently training in, it's one of my favorites (although I only buy shoes I like). The current rotation is: ON Cloudmonster 3, Saucony Ride 18, ASICS Sonicblast, Brooks Ghost 17, and Adidas EVO SL. For the distances ranging 6-10 miles, I'd say I like the Cloudmonster the best. It's my preferable shoe when I feel "snappy." On days I feel a little more tired and know I'll be heel striking more, I will go with a different shoe. Overall, this shoe is my favorite daily trainer right now. It gets me through the week and is reliable. I appreciate ON listening to the feedback from the Cloudmonster 2 and making changes we wanted to see. 9/10 would recommend.
