  • One reviewer names the wide toe box for letting the toes splay.

  • The same reviewer found the laces very long and had to retie them to stop rubbing at the ball of the foot.

Great cushioned show with a roomy toe box

4/5

Overall

disclaimer: I was originally given this shoe by Altra to test out.

At first glance, I didn't know what to expect, as when I received the shoe it looked pretty chunky. Thankfully, the feeling underfoot is much lighter than the appearance would make it seem.

More specifically, the shoe felt extremely plush to me. Occasionally I would notice a little bit of rubbing on the inside of the ball of my foot, though after rearranging how the laces were tied a couple times it usually was fine. I also noticed that the laces seemed extremely long, even as someone with a higher instep. As with other Altra shoes, I love the wide toe box, which gives my toes plenty of space to splay more naturally.

I would say this is a great shoe for anyone. I have used this shoe during some trail runs, hill reps, striders (buildup sprints), and road runs ranging from slow recovery runs to steady states. Shoe was more versatile than I expected, and though it held up well for steady states, I would not go much faster than that in them.

By all means would be a great shoe for walkers or those who stand for long periods of time as well, as it is a great shoe to get some plush cushion under your foot while allowing space for your toes.
