Pros

  • Reviewers find the rocker and carbon plate roll them smoothly at speed.
  • Runners describe it as cushioned and stable for marathon-distance racing.
  • Many find it comfortable enough for tempo work and long runs too.

Cons

  • Three reviewers report fast outsole wear and keep it for races.
  • Value is its lowest-rated dimension at 4.0 out of 5, and one reviewer calls the sockliner surprisingly cheap for the price.
  • A few report heel slippage and a firm, stiff ride early on.

Great Speed Shoe

5/5

Overall

With the Carbon Plate and aggressive Meta Rocker in the shoe, it makes going fast extremely easy. While it doesn't give you the springy sensation of other carbon plate shoes, it guides your foot through its gait cycle, giving a gliding type feel. This makes it easy to go fast without worrying about your gait cycle, and the effect works for a variety of paces. However, this shoe is fairly fragile and does not handle slower paces very well due to its nature as a racing shoe. When used as a supplement to a daily trainer for those hard speed days, it does its job with flying colors.

Love the Carbon Plate

I have issues with hallux rigid. I used to have to put carbon plates under the insole. I now have space for orthotics.

Great shoe, short durability

4/5

Overall

The Hoka Carbon X is in general a good shoe for the competition day, no for daily running since it wear off quickly. Very bouncy and energy return is superb but the bottom plate will not last a long while. I strongly recommend it for the competition day, not for day to day work out.

Overall

If you are looking for a shoe that provides a great stack height with a carbon plate, the Carbon X is a great option. The shoe is soft but not too spongy and yet is still very responsive. It feels fast when running fast.

This shoe is awesome. Admittedly buy this shoe half a size bigger than your actual size will mean that you don't lose your little toe... However... This is a small price to pay for the best road ultra shoe you can buy
