Great training flat, 5k pace or faster

Dima · Oct 10, 2023

5/5

Overall

Air pocket in heel makes it super comfortable for heelstrike runners, minimum heel drop makes it snappy and responsive for stuff like speed, hills and vo2 max work, along with the plate in the sole which is especially responsive with road running. Older streak model so great in terms of price. Very secure fit, upper is sturdy but entire shoe is of minimal weight, tread is grippy and reliable in winter.

only negative I can think of is that it is only really suitable for even road and track, not comfortable on any other surface, including grass, trail etc.

Overall great shoe in rotation for shorter days, potentially of use in road races up to 5k, depending on course.

Fine very lightweight running shoe with good technical innovations

Darius Victor · Aug 6, 2023

4/5

Overall

The Nike Air Zoom Streak 7 is very lightweight at 6.5 oz. or so. This was my chief consideration since I find any running shoe over 8.5 oz to be like running with bricks attached to my feet. Currently I favor a minimalist approach, because this provides much more enjoyable and "natural" feeling running than the big puffy raised-up clunkers that most amateurs and even some pros are running on, and also more speed. Lots of cushioning seems to badly hamper my running form and technique and doesn't seem to significantly reduce the negative effects of impact forces. Likewise, the more "stack height" between the bottom of the foot and the running surface, the more uncomfortable and clunky my running technique feels. So the Zoom Streak 7 is very lightweight, low to the ground, and does lack cushioning compared to many other running shoes. These still offer far more cushioning and reduction of impact forces than running barefoot, for example. It seems impact forces are most effectively reduced by improving running form and technique and developing a high power-to-weight ratio. These are among the factors which make barefoot running possible. In other words, with high body mass and poor technique, barefoot running on hard surfaces may not be feasible.  This shoe has many great innovations, such as the breathable mesh-style fabric upper which comfortably wraps most of the foot. Flip the shoe over and the sole has a unique tread pattern I've wonderful for all surface types and weather related conditions. The sole is hollowed out in the middle towards the rear, which saves weight and perhaps helps the sole flex to absorb impact forces. The Air Zoom Streak 7 are my first Nike running shoes and give the impression that Nike is running shoe brand out front and solidly leading the pack.
