Great grip & comfort going up and down trails rocks & roots galore and side to side & zigzag switchbacks constantly! This shoe does not hesitate and you will be left in the wake of mud if you do not mountup with these on. No disappointments when you finish your run!

Rugged and attractive

Overall

I spent a lot of time researching what to buy for my latest trail/fell running footwear, i tried on many pairs by a few of my favourite and trusted brands and these are the ones i picked. I must say the look is waht swayed me when i was down to the last few pairs, i think they are an attractive and rugged looking shoe. I run off road quite a bit an needed something a bit more tough than what i was using. The outer on these is the mid range option between the standard speedcrodss and speedcross GTX. they are pretty waterproof but if you end up bog trotting or river running you're expecting too much if you think these will keep you dry but the fit was good for me so i don't mind wet feet as i don't end up with rubbing or blisters. The grip is good and the sole is hard enough that you wont feel every lump and bump in the trail and as such they are not the softest ride. This is the first pair of trainers I've had that don't have standard laces and that was the only thing i had to get used to. for the first little while every time i went out i'd have to stop to loosen them as it's way too easy to over-tighten. Once i got over that though I've never looked back.

Great durable shoe for trails, but too stiff for me.

The soft, thick lugs are great for gripping terrain and (dry) rocks. This is my go-to shoe for backpacking. I'd like it for trail running, but it's a bit too stiff and hot for my taste. I prefer something minimal like a Merrell Trail Glove. After owning these for a year, I only run in them if there's a chance of snow and I really need a LOT of traction.

Love the Speedcross 4s!!

Overall

Living in Northwest New Mexico there are ample opportunities for trail running. I have loved these shoes for running mountain bike trails and hiking trails in Southwest Colorado. They provide great stability in the ankles and solid footing even on fairly technical trails. I have purchased two pair of them one had climate control, the other did not. I found the ones without climate control to be more comfortable in general. However the ones with climate control have come in handy for hiking in the snow and doing various runs in cold weather. I have run in the snow and rain in the ones without climate control, they kept my feet dry and warm.

Potential as a top trail race performance shoe.

Overall

Great colors, stylish, sleek, top of the market quick lace system, great balance of waterproof material/breathable. Heel cushioning fine- doesn’t really factor into racing on toes. Weakest factor was the forefoot. Forefoot tread was not durable enough. Tread rubber was soft. You could actually feel the rubber squish on a toe strike downhill on rocky trails. Locking lace system did heel lock that heel in and keep foot secure in shoe (unlike traditional lace up shoes where all of locking pressure is tight on the last upper knot/cross lace. Tread wore out too fast. Potentially look into a version with forefoot cushioning built up like Hoka to aid in fast down hill trail stretches. Great shoe, still have them and use them for outdoor fun.
