Lighter & Faster

5/5

Overall

The NB 1400V6 is lighter and faster than the 1400V5. It's more true to size in length than V5 but has a touch more room in the forefoot. The biggest change is with the tongue, They've removed the tongue padding and it's closer to a track flat style tongue. The upper end of the tongue feels like it might dig in when put on but causes absolutely no issues while running. While most see the 1400 as maybe useful up to the 13.1 distance, I've run with it for 26.2 comfortably.

NB1400v6 review

5/5

Overall

Overall my favorite iteration of the 1400 line. Best cushion and traction of them all, great fit, perfect room in toe box. Fantastic tongue and top of foot feel. Super smooth ride. Held up about as well as a pretty lightweight trainer/racer could. Traction perfect except for super slick surfaces, but typically handles wet surfaces well. Lovely to run in.

Light, Minimal, Supportive

5/5

Overall

Having run in a previous version of the 1400s and of the 1500s, I'm glad that New Balance is sticking with a formula that works. The 1400 v6 are super light, which means that there isn't much (read: barely any) cushion, but I find that they're great for a person trying to work on their turnover during marathon training. I would recommend them for tempo and longer repeats (1-2 miles) workouts, and any race between the 5k to half-marathon distance. Just like previous versions of the 1400 and 1500, they're rather durable. After ~ 150 miles, I have minor wear on the sole and very slight wear on the uppers where my pinky toes jut out. Would strongly recommend this shoe to the rotation of someone who (1) isn't looking to break the bank (they're some of the least expensive out there!), (2) is working on their turnover but for whom speed doesn't come naturally, and (3) needs a dependable, neutral shoe with high drop (10 mm).
