Overshadowed and out-uppered

I really wanted to love this shoe, but a few things hold it back for me. Mainly: The upper runs too warm after a couple of miles. Not a huge dealbreaker, but if you're considering it as an unplated marathon race day shoe, the upper does get warm to my foot. The fit is also slightly shallow at the end of my toes, but not enough to size down. After lacing up pre-run, it still doesn't feel like I have a great hold by my ankle. I'll chalk it up to having narrow-ish heels. My biggest gripe with it? Asics has shown us they know how to make better uppers! The Novablast 5, 6, Superblast 3, Sonicblast 2, and others have all been phenomenal uppers to my feet, except the Megablast. They're more than capable of it, even if it's a copy-paste of the Superblast 3 upper; I would've preferred that. Side Notes: It doesn't feel all that different underfoot from the Novablast 6 to me. Yes, it does have more pep throughout, but the Novablast can still do up-to threshold workouts just fine for most. The Superblast 3 would be a better long run/marathon option on the upper alone, but underfoot is more exciting and leaves me feeling less beat down after longer efforts. The catch there is the Superblast 3 is not great to move that fast in. Marathon pace would be alright for most, but it's not my first choice for a half or shorter unless you like the big shoe/cruiser feel. At the end of the day, I think the Superblast 3 and Novablast 6 are more versatile right now, and both are cheaper than the Megablast. My Superblast 2s are still kicking around after 600+ miles too, but with a totally different feel than the 3. Similarly, I loved the Novablast 5, which is also different than the 6, but I think both are decent buys if you find them lightly used online for under $100.

The toe box is low volume so my toe is smoooshed if they fix the upper then I’d buy more for sure! It has a firm ride with bounce but goes easy too. It’s kind of like the Azura but more bounce. The roll is nice, I’m useing as tempo shoe for runs under 10 miles.

The one-shoe rotation king

Overall

The one-shoe rotation king. It's the fastest, most well-cushioned trainer available. Foot last needs slight tweaking (too aggressively tapered in the toe box) to be truly perfect, but it's damn close.
