A step back

3/5

Overall

I’ve run in several iterations of the Mach, but this version (6) is a different shoe from the previous version, which was superior for me. Hoka is doing to this shoe what they did to the Clifton, circa V5, which is messing with a great thing for limited benefit. The added rubber sole, while potentially adding lifespan, detracts from the smoothness, runs louder, and isn’t that great when wet out. They’ve also, apparently, taken out the some of the rocker (early stage ”meta rocker”) in this version which made the turnover so easy in the version 5. It’s still a decent shoe, but it now a easy-day shoe, rather than a tempo or workout shoe.
