Not absolutely terrible

3/5

Overall

I got the first Zoom Fly with my first pair of Vaporflys in 2017. While the VFs were life changing, the Zoom Fly always felt clunky. I ran in several early models of this and would put in 400-500 miles. At some point, the huge block of foam just became such a barrier to wanting to put them on for a run. I skipped the v4 but seeing the ZoomX advertised here, I jumped on a pair on sale. The ZoomX is used in homeopathic doses here. Maybe it's in there behind that little window but the window is there for a reason as you would never accuse this shoe of being soft and bouncy like we've come to expect from that super foam. That said, it's not a total brick like the early versions and while I don't think it's as refined as say the Peg, it's... fine. Lots of better options out there for an uptempo shoe.

I used the Fly 5 on the road, on the track for interval training and also on good paths because they are larger than the Zoom Fly 4.

Best shoe I’ve ever run in.

5/5

Overall

I began running in junior high school in 1974 and have run in numerous pairs of shoes. The Nike Zoom Fly 5 is by far the all around best shoe I have ever run in. I have used it for long runs, tempo runs as well as some of my longer repetitions on the track. it is durable enough as a high mileage shoe yet light enough and responsive for use in faster, paced running.
