Overall

Great for trail running, especially trails with dry, loose rocks. The only negative on trails is that it will slip on smooth, wet rock surfaces. Not a comfortable shoe for road use. Extremely durable --over 500 miles, with little signs of wear.

Wildhorsing Around

Overall

As a burnt out NCAA athlete, the Wildhorse provided my feet (and mind) refuge on the trails, where I quickly rediscovered my love of running. The feel underfoot is fairly similar to the Nike Zoom Elite 5/6/7/8, which is what I trained in for most of high school/college. The shoe was perfect for transitioning from the track to a focus on mountain/trail/ultra races, providing plenty of cushioning and support for high mileage (80-100 with 10000' of climbing) weeks on the trails, as well as enough traction to stay confident on my feet, no matter the terrain. Having also tried the Kiger, I found that the Wildhorse 3/4 fit my needs much better because of its 8mm drop, versus 4 mm on the Kiger, which seemed to aggravate my achilles. In particular, I really liked the addition of the stability wrap feature on the 4 because it seemed to lock down my foot better than the 3's flywire cables, while preventing tearing of the upper. My only real complaint is that the lugs tend to wear pretty quickly - especially in hot weather and when running on asphalt, which I try to avoid. This doesn't seem to be a problem specific to the Wildhorse, however, as I have noticed this with a plenty of other aggressively-lugged trail shoes. If Nike were to use a more durable rubber compound for the outsole, I could see myself easily getting 500-600 miles out of a pair, as opposed to the 300-400 (depending on the season) I normally do. All in all, an awesome shoe that will protect your feet while allowing you to shred trails in confidence!
