How settled the rating is against every other rated shoe. A shoe can rate high on confidence with relatively few reviews of its own when its product line has a long record and external ratings from retailer sites agree. Confidence will score low when we have few ratings or when runners disagree.

Pros

  • Averaging 8.3 oz across the men's and women's builds, it is lighter than the 8.9 oz median for daily trainers on sale, and one reviewer praises the roomy toe box.
  • That reviewer calls it flexible and breathable for everyday training.
  • The other reviewer has run about 1000km in a pair with no holes at the toes.

Cons

  • One reviewer finds it too flexible on grass and liable to collect stones on dirt.
  • The same reviewer says the heel cup may blister while wearing in, and prefers the isofit lacing on other Saucony lines.

Saucony Breakthru 4

4/5

Overall

Roomy toe box and quite flexible. Quite light and breathes well, but can be used for everyday training. The fit cups the heal which might give some people a blister while wearing in, and while the lacing is not terrible it is not as good as the isofit system on some of Saucony's other lines. Given the light construction I suspect they will not prove as durable as some other heavier options, however, I tend to get a lot of wear out of my shoes and there are no signs of damage yet. I have used them on track surface, road, grass and compacted dirt trails. Track and road were good. The flexibility was not ideal for a super soft surface (grass). On compacted dirt they were fine but are liable to collect stones. Overall, a good and affordable option for neutral feet but not for every application.

good shoe

Overall

I've run about 1000km on this shoe and so far it's none the worse for the wear. I've only recently noticed some decline in the cushioning, and unlike most shoes (for me) there are no holes near the toes. Good solid all around shoe. Best built shoe I've had in a while.
