Great shoe

5/5

Overall

The first time I ran in the Escalante, three things stood out in a big way. 1. Comfort - The shape of the shoe fit my foot perfectly and the soft upper felt like a slipper. The soft foam sole felt great underfoot even on gravel. 2. Bounce - With so much cushion, I expected these shoes to feel slow and suck the energy out of every step, but I was surprised that they actually had great energy return. 3. Great shoes for running in a straight line on a mostly flat surface. When running on grass or making corners, it feels like your feet will roll off the side of the sole due to the one piece soft upper. Overall, the Escalante is one of my all time favorite shoes for daily road mileage.

Very comfortable and unique

4/5

Overall

This shoe is unlike any other. I ran about 400 miles in it, and I have now retired it due to excessive outsole wear. Though, it was very fun to run in. The Altra EGO foam is very responsive and much faster than traditional EVA. The Escalante is also very comfortable due to its cushiness, perfectly-shaped toe box, and knit upper. Many will complain about the shoe being too stretchy and hard to run in when there are tight turns, but I never had this problem. Personally, I prefer a shoe with a thinner sole, but for those who want a cushioned ride that does not compromise on speed, the Escalante is a good one.
