The Do-It-All Hoka

Overall

Thought I would give the Challenge ATR 5 a shot after my torrents were worn out. Was intrigued with the 2E option and my very wide foot fits perfectly. Same size as I would get for the Clifton, 9.5 which is a half size down from the Torrent. Great blend of cushioning, stability, responsiveness and grip. Lugs aren't outrageous so these can be worn on the roads with no issue. If you have a wider foot and are looking for a durable all around shoe, give the Challenge ATR 5 in a 2E size a shot.

Great ride, could be more durable

Love this shoe on all surfaces. Great cushioning! The sole could be a little more durable for the price.

So far so good.

Overall

I got these shoes looking for a wider toe box with going with a "wide" shoe. I have forefoot problems and getting scrunched by the sides is bad. Not quite as wide as the Clifton "wide" shoe, but it does not appear to be aggravating the problem. Not my first of Hoka's, but my first Challengers. Hard to rate on durability...I've had them a month and I can only run about 3 days a week due to the aforementioned issues, but they seem to be holding up okay.

A slow burn

Sand. Rocks. Up hill. Black top. Side walks. Oh yes this is the shoe for me! Going down hill with no slips is the deal for my knees. The toes say, WTH all wet is rough, next time the right socks will do the trick. Going longer is the best for my next race. Tons of shoes down, thanks but no thanks. I found my next.
