I'm back and as happy as before!

Overall

My first Nike shoe was the original innovator, the Nike Waffle. But, then I turned to other shoes over the decades. Only recently did I consider trying Nike again. The three Air Zoom I've used have been fantastic. Excellent fit, great cushion, very durable and the price was reasonable. So, I'll stick with these as long as I can get them.

The Pegasus 37 seems to be a bit of a hate or love relationship. For a lot of people they experience a shoe that's too heavy and the cushioning a bit dead. For me, it took some time to actually start to like the shoe. Coming from Peg 36 and Boston 7, this shoe has a lot more underfoot. The middle took some time to break in, only after 300 miles / 450 kms did I really start to enjoy this shoe. The foam is softer and more flexible which feels great. The upper also stretched a lot, and fit really well now. The outsole is worn down quite a bit in the ball of the foot area, but the overall durability is really good, higher than most shoes. The Zoom air pocket really provide a long term, consistent cushioning that does not compress or break down. I've used this shoe for most of my training (easy, tempo, intervals), except track intervals. It has worked great for most, but I definitively think it sits best in the slightly faster paces (

Nike have missed the mark with this one

The react foam is good and the airbag works well, this is a durable shoe that works for pretty much everything - as a pegasus should. It's different to the older models but still does the same job. However, the shoe is ruined by an awful heel fit. I don't really know how Nike have managed to make this quite so bad but there is consistent heel slip and a lack of stability in the ankle which makes the shoe really frustrating to run in. I've never had this problem with a pegasus before so was very disappointed - I do have narrow feet though, so this may still work for others.

I was a big fan of the Pegasus 35s when they were released and fell in love with the slightly improved 36s (Thanks, Nike, for changing the tongue design!). I am still undecided on the 37s though, having owned a pair for a couple of months and done about 250K in them. I rotate them currently with a pair of 36s and a pair of Zoom Fly 3s. I am always excited to see innovation in shoe design, and the 37s certainly caught my attention. I hoped that the step from 36 to 37 would have been as good as 34 to 35, but I am as yet undecided. The new ZoomFly 3-esque React foam midsole has changed the geometry of the shoe completely. The Pegasus was traditionally a high heel-to-toe drop shoe favouring every run type from track intervals to your twenty-plus mile long runs. So far, the thicker forefoot and lower drop has been relatively easy to get used to, although this could be down to my use of the Zoom Fly 3s previously, but anyone moving from the 36s to the 37s will notice the difference instantly. In terms of the Zoom foam changing to React foam, I have not really noticed the difference. The upper of the shoe has some changes but these are relatively minor. I liked the flywire look and tongue of the 36s, but this was changed (for the worse in my opinion) on the 37s for a clumsier more bulky arrangement. All in all, still a great shoe for everything you want to throw at it. Intervals, tempos, long easy runs, races. Everything. You cannot go wrong with having at least one pair of Pegasus in your locker. The love affair continues.
