Best shoe I've ever run in
4/5
Overall
The durability of this model, the 4, is outstanding among running shoes I have owned. The foam does compress, but the upper lasts the life of the shoe. You can pretty much wear the tread off the bottoms and the upper will be fine. This is sadly not the case with the 5. Other aspects: The rocker bottom is great. The lugs are great. The flat laces are great. The color options are excellent. I have had many pairs of these shoes. I use them on the road as well as the trail, and hundreds of miles of hiking. They have done right by me. And it comes in a gore-tex model that is awesome, especially in winter, but too hot for warm weather imho. I put microspikes on them.
I did have trouble with grip on hard rock with a couple of pairs I had, but that may have been that I got them discounted. The lugs seemed to be dried and hard, which they will get over time. The volume is relatively low through the toe, and the shape of the toe is traditional and not foot-shaped as is becoming a trend. That is an aspect I would change.
