Overall
The Saucony peregrine was the first trail shoe i ever tried — i enjoyed running in it, so when i was ready for a new pair, I bought the same model.
The peregrine 12 performs satisfactorily on snow and ice — i know many companies have a model specific to running on snow and ice, but for my purposes (running across snow on the road, or on the golf course in my neighborhood), the regular peregrine has sufficient traction and sufficient grip. I am not using it to run on hiking trails, but rather to run on packed snow or patchy snow on concrete.
This shoe is old school in ways that I prefer a shoe to be old school, for example:
1. It has a moderate stack height — not too much, and not too mushy. I don’t need or want giant marshmallow sneakers, even though the shoe industry thinks I do. And:
2. It has a “reasonable” silhouette, by which I mean, there are no clown-shoe features, with little elfy points coming out the front or rear of the sole, and there are also no weird outcroppings coming out the sides of the shoe (When I look down at my feet, I don’t see the sole sticking out to the right and to the left of the upper.)
This shoe has been solid and reliable for me — two winter seasons in my first peregrines, and currently on my first winter season of the peregrine 12.
