Best trail shoe ever, but previous models were better

Anonymous runner · Sep 28, 2025

5/5

Overall

The Saucony Peregrine series is the best trail shoe I've ever used. The only problem is that in the last few models they have added too much heel cushioning which has made the shoe more bulky and the heel higher up. It's more difficult to "feel the trail" in bulky shoes (Hoka trail shoes are absurd).

Awesome shoe for winter

Anonymous runner · Sep 28, 2025

Overall

I’ve run in this shoe all winter, always on roads, with snow, ice and just bare road. There was a break in period of about a week, but two months later these are among my favorite shoes. These have the more structured feel of a trail shoe, but can handle roads. My gait improved to a more mid foot/forefoot strike in these. The transition is smooth. They are not the lightest shoe, but I am still able to run fast in them. They have kept my feet totally dry even in heavy slush. They are warm for the winter, and the reaction seems to get better with use. They have an attractive design. The low drop is great. The more I run in them, the better they get.

Great for trails but nice on the roads, too

Overall

I have always liked the Peregrines for trail running - they have a wide forefoot which I need, grip really well and handle a wide range of terrain, though super rocky trails need a rock plate insert. My only complaint in the past was that the Peregrine 6 uppers did not last long enough (200 miles or so and they ripped). The Peregrine 7 seem to have fixed that. I also put a lot of miles on the roads on these and they handle it well. The lugs seem to add a bit of extra cushion.
