Great shoe

Anonymous runner · Sep 28, 2025

Overall

I was having foot problems, a neuroma to be exact, and these shoes, along with toe spacers, had got me back in the saddle. Very snug in the heel, tight through the mid foot (read secure) with ample space in the forefoot.

Some good improvements, but I'd prefer a softer ride

troppo · Sep 28, 2025

Overall

I enjoyed using the 3.0 Torins as a versatile trainer (moderate speedwork to long runs), so I looked forward to replacing them with these. Thankfully these have some key improvements. The snug and supportive fit around the midfoot is terrific, the soft heel counter (instead of having a firm heel cup) is great, breathability is fine in hot weather and the longer laces on large-size shoes are a plus. The outsoles seem as durable as those on the 3.0 shoes, and the coverage is more even now. But the midsole feels firmer– not what I want for covering long runs too – and I think the 4.0 design is a step backward in the looks department. I like having a pair of Altra shoes in my rotation thanks to the wide toe box and zero drop, but next time I’ll opt for a model with a softer midsole for greater versatility.

Solid daily training shoe

Overall

I'll start by saying I am a devout Pure Connect runner. It's been years and I haven't found anything that comes close to that shoe in terms of support, (not pronation control) underfoot feel, and shape of the shoe. I have narrow, medium to high arched feet, mildly pronate, and like room for my toes to splay. I'd had luck with the Altra Intuition in the past and was looking to try something that my local running store carried. If the shoe is not my beloved Pure Connect, I'll usually sub the sock liner for a pair of Superfeet insoles. Most shoes with the insoles make me feel like I'm running on stilts, but Altras have been the solution--the heel does not feel too high nor is the shoe stiff. The midfoot seemed a bit tight upon first wear; however, I quickly came to like how it and the narrow heel held my foot in place. The shoe is breathable (a must for living in the Southeast) and the lack of overlays across the forefoot is nice. They are light underfoot, but feel a tad clunky for speed work, but I have been able to do longer workouts on the road with them with little issues. I have about 300 miles on them so far with little creasing in the midsole and minimal wear on the outsole. Hoping to get around 550 on this pair like I did with the Intuitions. Overall a sturdy daily trainer that can accommodate insoles/orthotics, is light and flexible, and appears to be durable.

This Shoe is Amazing

Anonymous runner · Sep 28, 2025

Overall

Shoe is amazing for people with larger toeboxes. First shoe I've worn without having to go EE. Almost too much cushioning for a zero drop, and the sole material is a less durable than the Torin 3. Nevertheless, a huge recommend.

Torin 4 review from a high school XC and track athlete

Anonymous runner · Sep 28, 2025

Overall

Shoe is great for the roads and even some trails as long as they aren’t to technical. It’s comfortable and feet stay nice and snug which is something I’ve not always found in Altra shoes. Would recommend for most people even if you’re new to zero drop, this is a great shoe. It also it looks sick, probably the best looking altra shoe yet.
