Glad I gave them another shot

Overall

I first ran in the Mizuno Wave Inspire around 10 years ago when I first started running (I think it was the Inspire 9's at that time). They were my go-to shoe for years, but I switched to Brooks Adrenalines around the Inspire 13s because I felt the support changed and they didn't feel as good on my feet. I picked up a pair of Inspire 14s on clearance at my local running store and am glad to say that I like this pair as much as the old 9's and 11's that I used to run in. The shoes are light weight but have enough cushion and support for marathon running. I've put around 250 miles on them and they still feel good with no signs of breaking down. This has been a great pair of shoes and I'm looking forward to many more runs in them.

Very comfortable and lots of support. I put a lot of wear on the shoes and it takes me about 700+ miles to wear them out. I'm on my third pair now; I'd recommend them to anyone who needs stability shoes.

Overall

I was fit for the Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 at a pro running shop, where the associate insisted I needed this motion control shoe for over-pronation. I have never been told I over pronate before, always neutral, and really believe this associate was wrong. His analysis was from a walk across the tiny shop, not a treadmill analysis. I have run for years, injury-free, in neutral shoes from other companies. This was both my first Mizuno, and my first stability shoe. I will say that for those who want or desire this level of motion control, this may be the shoe for you -- for me it was a painful and expensive failure. 100 miles in, this shoe has caused IT Band and knee pain unlike I have ever felt. The only change to my routine is this shoe. Just bought another neutral shoe like the last pair I loved, and already, pain is healing and subsiding. The signature Mizuno wave plate is just not for me. Beyond the pain issues I experienced, I found the Wave Inspire 14 to be clunky, loud, and clumsy. It forced my stride to be horse-like (clomp, clomp, clomp). The ultra-cushioned heel feels great while standing, but offers a mushy ride on the road. My overall impression is of a horseshoe with a memory foam pillow on top. Appearance-wise, they remind me very much of the 1990s sneakers I wore in high school. I will not purchase another Mizuno.
