Once you've run in these, there's no going back

Overall

A backhanded compliment, as these shoes change the way you run to such a dramatic degree that running in other shoes seems distinctively un-natural. There's a reason why so many people end up swearing by 'em, so mix them with other shoes regularly. Very comfortable for distance running (got a 3:12 London run out of them), but frankly make you run too slowly for races 10K and below. Like a Range Rover, it's a big, fat, comfortable shoe that makes you feel nice and smug rolling along the highways, but like the RR, quality has disappointed for the sticker price (I paid way less) and there was serious wear on the soles after 300 miles. For a 155lb runner, that's not promising.

I really like my Asics Kayano shoes. The toe be dis nice and big and their stabilization helped my knee pain go away. I can do a 10 mile run with absolutely no pain.

If you can still buy these...DO IT!

This shoe was the backbone for 3 months of training during the summer. I was running about 80mile weeks with these and they never EVER failed. Great support, incredible durability, comfortable to a fault.

Great cushioning, and an improvement over the 22

Anonymous runner · Sep 28, 2025

Overall

I wear several different brands and models of shoes, but the Kayano is my go to shoe for distance and races. I need to have some drop, some stability, and I like the cushioning. I did not like the Kayano 22 -- as the toe box narrowed significantly over the 21, and it just didn't feel comfortable for running. The 23s are still narrower in the toe box than the 21 (I have to wear a larger size), but are a significant improvement with regard to cushioning.
