How it ranks
The ASICS GEL-Kayano 29 ranks among the stronger daily trainers in our data. Durability and cushioning are its strongest sub-ratings. Value scores well below its other sub-ratings. The rating rests on 20 runner reviews and 15 other rated shoes in the GEL-Kayano product line.
Confidence
How settled the rating is against every other rated shoe. A shoe can rate high on confidence with relatively few reviews of its own when its product line has a long record and external ratings from retailer sites agree. Confidence will score low when we have few ratings or when runners disagree.

35 mpw training for 5K and 10K
4/5
Overall
The Gel Kayano 29's have served me right with 4 pairs I've gone through in between 7th grade track to freshmen year. Up until recently, the only shoes I wore on the road were Gel Kayano's, they've gone through almost every easy, long, tempo, and interval workout I've done through my life. While I can say having different shoes for different intensities is very helpful, these still did the job and kept me away from injury. By far the best thing about these shoes is their durability. On my 3rd pair, I sunk almost 800 miles in and only got a new pair because the cushioning had been worn-out. While my 3rd pair was almost at the end of it's lifespan I was putting in 55 mile weeks without any stress-related injuries which was the highest I'd ever done up to that point. The shoes are heavy, but still have a fair amount of versatility outside your easy runs. My 8th grade year I ran a pre-season road 5k in them at 20:00 flat, and a little over a year later ran another road race in them at 16:57. My last 3 pairs have been around $80-100 and have gotten unmatched price per mile. Overall, the Gel-Kayano 29's have stayed a strong deal as a running shoe well after 2 years from their release, and I cannot recommend them more.

The cushion and stability that Kayano provides is unmatched!
Best shoe for me as I tend to over-pronate and have put on some weight as well as of recent.

Hard to find options for extra-wide stability - ASICS Gel-Kayano is the best. They’re not the most durable, but they do the job and are on sale often.
