Pros

  • Ten reviewers say how far a pair lasts them, most landing between 300 and 500 miles.
  • Reviewers run everything in it, from easy miles to tempo work, and on road, track and trail.
  • Two reviewers who had lacing trouble and peeling outsole segments on earlier Pegasus versions say this one fixes both.

Cons

  • Four reviewers find it short on bounce for track work and racing, one preferring spikes for a cross country 5k.
  • Two reviewers get fewer miles out of it than out of earlier Pegasus versions, one watching the midsole bottom out at 200 miles while the upper and outsole are still intact.
  • Cushioning is the weakest of its categories at 4.2 out of 5, across a hundred and thirty-four reviewers.

Improved Pegasus

4/5

Overall

I had problems with Pegasus versions 36-38, as the rubber lugs glued to the midsole would start to peel off. Also, laces on 38 were a PIA to tighten. Pegasus 39 has taken care of both problems

Great training shoe

Overall

Beat these shoes up during summer training and they held up incredibly. Ran over 300 miles and they still are in decent shape. Very breathable shoes.

Best of what you can get these days

4/5

Overall

Gone are the days when a pair of shoes will last you 600 miles. These shoes will last about 350-400 miles, which I guess is about right for shoes these days. I wish they were more durable. Other than that, I have no complaints about the Pegasus 39. They are neutral, soft, relatively fast, and not too hot. They also come in a wide enough array of colors that most people will be able to find something that works. Thanks, Nike.

A Tried and True Daily Trainer - A Jack of All Trades

4/5

Overall

Basically title. I’ve run in the Pegs since at least the 29s. I’ve been on and off with them for 10 years. I’ve felt the cushion of Hoka, the seemingly hand-crafted uppers from Saucony, and put some serious miles on some New Balances. However, I keep coming back to the Nike Pegasus when I need something reliable. It’s a good shoe for most occasions when you don’t have anything specific in mind and just want to go back to the basics.
