Pros

  • The Continental rubber outsole holds up well past 500 miles for many.
  • Runners use it for tempos, track sessions and marathons alike.
  • Light at 8.8 oz with a snappy, responsive Boost ride.

Cons

  • Several reviewers find it lean on cushioning, and pick softer shoes for recovery days.
  • Three reviewers find the forefoot narrow, and one advises going half a size up.
  • One reviewer says it soaks up water like a sponge, and another finds the outsole less grippy on ice and wet.

Big fan of this versatile adidas shoe

5/5

Overall

In the last couple years, shoes have skyrocketed in terms of innovation and technology. What was once the pinnacle of running shoe tech--the Adidas Boost foam--has been sort of left behind, but it still remains an outstanding performer and in my opinion, one of the best. The Germans at Adidas seem reluctant to make major changes in effort to catch up to Nike's latest creations, but that's for good reason. The Boost foam is reliable, cushioned and awesome. Versatile enough for short runs, intervals, marathons and easy days. The Continental rubber on the Boston 7 remains unchanged from version six, but as the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, then don't....". You know what I mean. Lastly, there have been cosmetic changes to the upper to make it look more modern, but that's about it. It still feels like an Adidas Boost, still lasts 400 miles, still looks timeless and classic. You can't go wrong with the Adidas Boston Boost 7. I will say, it's best to go a half size up in this shoe over what you normally wear.

This review is really of the version 6 though I just started running in the 7, which seems very similar. Anyway, I ran in the version 6 for about 550 miles and though it was a great all purpose shoe that was good for speed workouts and distance. Very light, very responsive with a lot of road feel.

The everyday trainer

5/5

Overall

I've worn the Boston Boost line (5, 6 & 7) as my every day trainer for several years now. Pros: - Fit well: No hot spots, comfortable - Lightweight: While I would not consider them "super lightweight" , they definitely do not feel clunky or heavy - Firm ride: Definitely not overly cushioned, but produces a solid "firm" responsive ride - Crossover: Can be used as a trainer or racer for Half or Full Marathons. Ran 2 Marathons in the Boston Boost line with no issues. Opted for the Adios Boost for the Half. - Injury free - I am an injury prone runner. I have only had 1 significant injury (not major, but a missed a few days) since switching to the Boston Boost as an everyday trainer about 2-2.5 years ago. Cons: - Sponges: The shoes tend to absorb water like a sponge. If are a heavy sweater or running in the rain these will become 2 lb squishy bricks on your feet - Durability: I averaged 70+ mi/week during training and had to replace these around~500. The continental rubber soles are great when fresh out of the box, but tend to wear down quickly. This could be due to my running style though. While I am probably on the lighter side for the average person, I tend to be heavy on my feet (legs are aways tired) which probably kills the durability of the shoes. I also run 7 days a week and do not rotate shoes. Someone who is "lighter" on their feet and rotates shoes may be able to stretch out the lift of these shoes. - Price: Retail @ $120 which is a little over priced. I think a fair price point for these is ~$100-105. - Colors: Shoe color or style isnt a determining factor for me, but adidas is really stingy with the colors they release for the adios & boston boost lines and they always tend to be ugly.

adidas Adizero Boston 7

Overall

Despite not liking the 4th version of this shoe because of narrowness, I decided to give no. 7 another go. And boy, is it an enjoyment. This shoe has helped me through training for and racing in Berlin and still has life left in it. To me, it's near perfect. The only downside is that it could use some additional cushioning.
